Ben Brown, a local wild boy, is accused of killing off-duty police officer Cole Clinton.
Lawyer David Mitchell is appointed as defense counsel and the prosecutor is Norris Bixby.

The airplane is carrying an important passenger.
3. Downtown parade
The passenger, Ben Brown, is then lodged in the county jail to await trial for murder.
4. Norris Bixby and David Mitchell
Attorneys Norris Bixby and David Mitchell are the prosecutor and defense attorneys.
David is assisted by retired lawyer Art Harper and his daughter Susan.
5. David interviews Laura Mae
Laura Mae is Ben's wife but she isn't entirely loyal to him.
6. David interviews Ben
Ben claims that Cole's death was an accident and that Laura Mae and Ben were hitchhiking when Cole picked them up.
7. Courthouse crowd
The trial attracts a lot of attention.
8. Mac McWade testifies
David, Laura Mae, and Cole were at the bar.
9. Laura Mae and David
Both knew that Cole was interested in Laura Mae.
10. Cole Clinton
Cole lays a large amount of cash on the table.
11. Loose change and a "big wad"
There is some loose change on the table including two silver quarters, a silver dime, and a nickel.
12. Laura Mae looks at the change
The change is for Laura Mae who takes some to the juke box and plays a song and dances.
13. Laura Mae dances
Her dance excites Cole and the three move to a motel with Ben in one room and Cole and Laura Mae in another.
14. Smart girl
Laura Mae pulls out Cole's money clip.
Back in court the attorneys give their final arguments.
15. David argues
David argues that New Mexico law excuses a killing done by the husband of a wife having sex with another man.
16. Norris argues
Norris argues that Ben is guilty anyway.
The jury acquits Ben.
17. David and Susan with Mr. Harper
Outside the courthouse David, his girlfriend Susan, and her father Mr. Harper celebrate.
